Notadal is a very stout and robust fellow and resides here in Ontario. He is 150lbs and 35" tall. He is a friendly and happy fellow with everyone he meets his new best friend. Ekho is our protective, sweet girl. She is 33" tall and 120lbs. She has had OFA done for her hips, elbows, thyroid and heart. This is her last litter and she will be spayed and retired from our breeding program following this litter. A lovely retirement couch with her new dad awaits our beautiful girl.
Sometimes things don't go as planned and sometimes time lines don't line up no matter how much effort we all put out in the universe. So with that, due to circumstances beyond my control plans that have been in place for months had to be changed. Ekho had her babies on July 8th, she had a date with her new boyfriend Notadal, a very handsome and THICK mismarked Merle Mantle. I had talked to his breeder about him in the past and it was his turn to step into the spotlight with Ekho for his first and her last.
Thank you to the ever so talented Jessems Photography for taking pictures of this absolute stunning stud muffin.
Breeding is not all sunshine and rainbows. There are some amazing highs and some devastating lows as well as every emotion in between. Even when you do everything right, it doesn't work out. The amount of control we actually have in this world of breeding is surprisingly very little. Even after doing it right and spending the large amount of money to do all the right steps and take the right actions, still end up with nothing. This isn't the end. Ekho will try again. This time we will jump through the hoops again and do all the right steps again. Spend the money for those steps again. It is not insanity, OK, maybe a little bit lol although even when doing all the same steps the results can be different and just maybe the steps works. They have worked for many years with many breeders and we will be positive they will work the next time and she will take. So stay tuned, fall of 2022.
With the heart shattering news of Aspen having moderate heart disease at only 2 years old and no longer being an option at all to be joining our program, she has been designated to the couch, we will be taking a break from breeding for at least 2 years starting in 2023.
The Ferngully litter between Ekho x Notadal, that arrived July 8th, 2022 will be our last litter until further notice.
We will use this time to spend all we can with Aspen as no matter how much time we get, it will never be enough and nothing will stop us from feeling like she's been stolen away. No matter how tightly we hold onto to her. We will also decide how we are going to proceed with a future prospect(s) to step into the shoes Aspen is no longer working towards.
This is not the end of Black Pigeon Great Danes, this is not at all "good bye". We just need some time to work though this and get back into a better place and heal our hearts. To say we are devastated doesn't even begin to touch how we are feeling.
Stay tuned for what the future brings once we get through this hard and difficult time.
